Prof. Shaijumon obtained his Ph.D. in Physics from Indian Institute of Technology Madras. He spent more than 3 years in the United States as a postdoctoral research fellow at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, Troy, New York and Rice University, Houston, Texas. Later he spent nearly a year and half as a senior postdoctoral researcher at Paul Sabatier University, Toulouse, France. He joined IISER Thiruvananthapuram as an Assistant Professor in School of Physics in 2010. From 2023, he is a Professor and since 2024, he has been appointed as Head of School of Physics at IISER Thiruvananthapuram.
Shaijumon’s research interests are in the area of nanomaterials and energy storage and conversion, focusing on the synthesis of novel nanostructures, 2D layered materials and heterostructures, design and development of efficient energy storage devices such as rechargeable batteries and supercapacitors, mostly looking at the materials science and physics of these systems. Shaijumon heads the DST-IISER Thiruvananthapuram center for the development of Solid-State Battery technology. He has three US patents and two Indian patents, and more than 100 publications to his credit. He is on the editorial board of International journals, PLOS ONE, Infomat, and Philosophical Transactions of the Royal Society A. Shaijumon received the DAE Young Scientist Research Award in 2012. He is also a recipient of the Materials Research Society of India medal for 2019, and the SERB Science & Technology Research Award (2023).
